The Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes has dropped to fourth as the team has gone 3-3 in its last six games. The Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa and the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson are tied for fifth.
Here’s a look at the NFL MVP odds (odds are live and will shift accordingly):
NFL MVP
Purdy vs. Prescott
This is a pretty sick stat for Purdy. The 49ers quarterback only produced his third-best passer rating this season at 148.8. Take it a step further. It’s only his third-best passer rating in the last four weeks! And his fourth best this season was a measly 144.4 rating … against the Cowboys. What? How is that even a thing? His 0.73 Expected Points per dropback rate, via TruMedia, was his second-best of the season and his career in the win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
But … how close is Prescott to Purdy? Purdy leads Prescott overall in these categories:
| player | EPA/DB | Total EPA | Psr Rt |
|---|---|---|---|
0.30 (1) | 115.4 (1) | 116.1 (1) | |
0.21 (2) | 98.7 (2) | 108.3 (2) |
Purdy produced monster numbers in the first four weeks, while Prescott started slower. The Cowboys QB, though, has been crazy good since then. Here’s a look at numbers between the two passers from Week 5-13, which starts with their head-to-head meeting in Week 5:
| player | EPA/DB | Total EPA | Psr Rt |
|---|---|---|---|
0.27 (1) | 66.0 (2) | 116.6 (1) | |
0.26 (2) | 83.6 (1) | 114.3 (2) |
Prescott and Purdy have been head and shoulders better than every quarterback within that span. The Cowboys’ passer finally faced his first major test since Week 9 vs. the Eagles during the team’s Week 13 win over the Seattle Seahawks. This one tested Prescott’s mettle and he prevailed with three fourth-quarter scoring drives to pull off the comeback.
